KDE 4.0 Released! YAY!

First off, for those that know me, I’m a geek. If you didn’t know that yet, then you CERTAINLY do now given that I’m all excited that KDE 4.0 hit the streets. The sucky thing is that there are no built RPMs or SRPMs available for Fedora 8, so I’m downloading the sources, and building them myself. I’m pretty sure they are nice enough to include a ’spec’ file to make this relatively easy.

I’m sure some libraries will have to be updated, but hopefully not. Anyway, here’s a link to the announcement. This release has some really nice innovations taken heavily from OS X, but using a MacBook Pro at work, KDE is SO much more usable. Mind you, if you’re not technical, OS X is probably better, but the customizability of KDE is just crazy.

Back in the day, I used Xfce as it’s XML configuration, and cleanliness was great. Every release of KDE, I’d try it out, but invariably it seemed like it was never complete- pieces or functionality missing. When KDE 3.5 came out, and they said they fixed 1000’s of bugs (if I remember right), and for sure, it was absolutely perfect thereafter. I do have to say KDE is one of the most impressive desktop environments out there.

    I wasn’t impressed with KDE4.
